653 calibration issue

I drive a 2007 Honda CRV. I filled up my tank today. I used the little clip that holds the gas pump handle up for you while you are filling up. I noticed that the gas price continued to rise past $45.00. When it finally climbed to $51.00 I started to get concerned. I glanced at the pump display and it showed I was at 16 gallons already. My CRV fuel tank capacity is 15.3 gallons. I quickly stopped the pump at 16.255 gallons. I pulled my manual out and sure enough it showed 15.3 fuel capacity. My car tells me how many miles I have until it's empty. I have taken it down to 6 miles until empty and even at that I have never been able to barely get past 14 gallon before the lever stops.

Today showed I had about 44 miles until empty. There is DEFINITELY a calibration issue. I immediately brought my receipt and owners manual inside the station and explained it to the clerk. The clerk told me that the entire conversation was recorded via camera and also audio (?) and he said the time outloud and stated he would inform his manager. I'm wondering how far the gallons would have gotten had I not noticed? I wonder how many other people have been ripped off by this same method? Most of us just wait to hear the "click". That never happened in my case.

I only hope and pray that this was a fluke on this pump and that this is not something they are purposely doing to gain extra money. Please make sure you are familiar with your fuel tank capacity and watch the pumps. I have no clue where the other gallon and a half went as it had no where to go in my tank. Beware.
