If you bought a car at any Southern Toy Store in VA or MD (1 store in VA, 9 in MD, plus Repair shop in Waldorf), you may know by now that All these stores are CLOSED, OUT OF BUSINESS. Phone numbers are disconnected or only ring busy.
I believe NO cars sold between December & February were EVER titled in the state purchased. These cars were sold even though they were NOT road-ready or even ready to be titled in the state. Southern Toy just kept All of the loan.
Also, BEWARE of Southern Volkswagon, Crain Hwy, MD. The owner/manager there guaranteed all the loans - at least for Capital One Auto Finance.
Check too, the Southern Toy Store in my area looks like it is re-opening under a NEW name. Go in & check business licenses - for NAME & Date. After I had bought, the local county business license was EXPIRED - by 10 months! Wish I had checked this FIRST!
I contacted Capital One, my finance company, my state delegate, the state board of automobile dealers. My delegate told me WHAT to do, how to file papers against the company & who their attorney was. You can do it ALL yourself, you do NOT need an attorney.
They were to cover ALL repairs for first 30 days. They managed to fix a problem with the thermostat & radiator - until the radiator leaked AGAIN 3/14/08. I have to get it repaired now, luckily a warranty I purchased covers some of the cost.
They lied - I was to get another key and remote, map CD - never happened. They told me I could get a key made anywhere - a lie. I called a Hummer dealer; I must have another key made at a Hummer dealer - it's a special Passlock key.
Unfortunately, to get tags, so I could drive to work, I had to go to VA DMV, pay the licensing fee, sales tax, tag fees AGAIN. I also found out that the Hummer had been inspected, but NO EMISSION test was done and car could NOT have tags until I paid an inspection for that test - $28. SO, car was NEVER serviced or road-ready. I requested copies of ALL service on my Hummer before AND after I purchased - never got - except copies of work they did after. My state said the car did NOT exist in the state - no paperwork filed by auto dealer. So, I had to pay over $1300 - also in my loan contract, so I could get permanent tags - to drive to work. Selling cars that are NOT road-ready is a FRAUD! And I have 2 repair bills!
So, if this includes you (or someone you know, tell them to read this). You must file court papers - to try & recover these costs - to title and get road-ready, including repairs YOU had to make.
I know ther were 3 people besides me who went to the same VA DMV office that I did. There are 13 Capital One Auto Loans that I was told about. Capital ONe kept telling me that the dealer had 90, then 120 days to send them the title. I said it didn't matter if it were 1,000 days - the dealer is NOT sending YOU the title. MY Hummer got titled because I paid the fees - twice! And they would be MY title because I handled it!
Do not let southern toy get away with ripping you off.
