In Feb of 08 my youngest son hit a curb in his 07 Scion. Upon inspection of the vechicle, I thought all that was needed was a new rim and a front end alignment. I took this car to Pep Boys in Plano to have it checked out. They told me that they could look at it and give me a call back.in less than 20 minutes, they had contacted me at my house and told me that the damage was over $2,300. (Bent tie rod, rack and pinion suspesnion, etc.) The "mechanic" went on to say that I should probably report it to my insurance. The "mechanic" then said that since the car was so new, they may even have trouble getting the parts that they needed but that they could start on the car right away.
The following Day I did contact my insurance company. They told me about another shop, Linberg Auto - in Dallas Texas - which is an awesome company by the way. I had the car towed to thier shop from Pep Boys. Upon thier inspection, they had called me to tell me that all that was needed on the car was a front end alignment and a new front rim. $150.00 in repairs. Pep Boys was trying to rip me off for over $2,000. My guess is one of 2 things.
Either this Pep Boys shop blatantly lied to me, or thier mechanics are iditots that don't know what they are doing. Either way, they will NEVER get ANY business from me, my family, or my friends. Don't let them victimize you! Avoid the hassle and find a better place to go, which will not be hard to do!
