Arrowhead Honda
The dealership that service built... What a wreckless statement!

I purchased my 2003 Honda Accord with 32,000 miles at Arrowhead Honda in August. I also purchased an extended warranty (LandCar through the dealership) that would last up to 100,000 miles. At the time it was still under manufacturer (bumper-to-bumper) warranty.

I took the vehicle into this dealership for service several times related to a window noise. They never could reproduce the noise even when I pointed it out during a ride-a-long with the service manager on 2 different occassions. This should have given me a clue. This continued over the course of the following year and approximately 5 trips to the service department. None of which resolved the problem. I still have the window noise to this day.

Fast forward to January. I take the car into the service department for a different noise that's coming from the engine compartment. This noise happens every time you start the car, but is much louder when you first start the engine. It's annoying to say the least and sounds like something is loose inside the engine. I dropped off the car and was called later that afternoon by my service advisor. He stated they could not hear the noise, but the engine was about a half quart low on oil and that it had an aftermarket oil filter that may not contain a "check valve" - something that the Honda oil filters have in order for all of the oil not to escape down into the oil pan and better lubricate the engine upon startup. I told him he was wrong and that the dipstick measured right in-between the High and Low marks - which is where everyone knows the oil level is supposed to be. I knew this since I had just changed the oil in this vehicle 1 week earlier. Furthermore, the aftermarket oil filter (which I trust more than the Honda oil filter) did contain the "check valve" as stated on the box.

Giving them yet another chance to resolve whatever problem I may have had in my engine compartment, I dropped the car off at the dealership service area the night before so that the noise would be even more prevalent. I recieved a call from Mr. Southern (my Service Advisor) later that morning stating that they could again not hear any noises coming from the engine area and that the oil level was still low and the oil filter was not a Honda recommended oil filter. I couldn't believe what I was hearing - is this some kind of scam or what!

Now granted, the vehicle did have 96,354 miles on it at the time, but it was basically covered from head to tow by Honda and/or LandCar for almost anything that might be wrong with the car. I argued with Mr. Southern and asked him to show me where in my Owners Manual it shows that the oil level should be filled to anything other than it was currently. He gave me some shpeal about how they perform their oil changes and that they filled the engines up passed the High mark on the dipstick. I proceeded to tell Mr. Southern that if this was now the recommended practice, then all of the Honda owners (probably millions of them) should be notified and all of the Owners Manual for all Hondas needed to be updated with this insightfully ciritical information.

Furthermore, they must be a group of MIT graduates to have figured out all by themselves that the dipstick markings were inaccurate and that the engine required more oil than it reported by this crude metal reading. Something that Honda engineers didn't figure out in designing their fine automobile.

By the time I got off the phone with Mr. Southern I was absolutely furious! The same story by 2 different Service Advisors and they both didn't have a leg to stand on. On top of that, I was not given any additional alternatives to figuring out what was wrong with my car. I vowed never to take my car into this dealership again for service of any kind. They couldn't reproduce the sound let alone find my problem and they weren't even willing to help me in any way.

I gave myself 2 weeks to calm down before calling the Arrowhead Honda service department again (since I didn't fully understand the terms of my warranty) to once again find out what more could be done. During the short phone call I was informed that they were no longer willing to service my vehicle at this dealership and that I would have to take my vehicle to another dealership in order to get this resolved. So, they can't hear the noise, they don't provide any direction or options and now they are refusing to service the vehicle that they sold to me and is still covered by the Honda Certified warranty.

Stay as far from this dealership as possible! They are nothing short of a bunch of morons. There is no hope for them ever getting my business again for anything. I would drive miles out of my way (at $2.97 per gallon) to another dealership before I'd go back to this place.
