My phone caller-ID said out of area, but I have some friends who work for companies who show the same thing, so I picked up. It was an automated message saying that the warranty on my car is running out, so press 1 now to extend it.
I am already on the Do-Not-Call list, so I hate it when companies sneak in under the radar and try to do this most unprofessional behavior.
I pressed 1 to speak with a customer service rep who wanted my name and telephone number. I immediately said that I received this call and would like to know more about the Warranty Activation Center. For example, where is your company located, and how can I reach you. Her response was that Iwould get that information as soon as I have a policy. (note: buyer beware). I said that I am already on the do not call list and do not appreciate being bothered at home. I even said I believe the call was illegal, at which point she very said in a very hurried and huffied manner, no, it was not. I said do not even own a car. When I tried to ask more questions, she hung up on me.
I then tracked down this website and the phone number I provided above which is merely an outsourced telephone answering center called American Software Solutions. I do not know if they are part of the scam, but the woman with whom I spoke was very kind, and I explained this whole thing and suggested that perhaps her company would not want to be associated with a company which appears so fraudulent as Warranty Activation Center.
