I got an automated call saying my auto warranty was about to expire, and I needed to stay on the line or press #1 to prevent that from happening. I pressed #1 and got a fellow who gave me his name as Rob Hardy, and the company as Warranty Activation Center. He could not tell me which car he was calling about, and he said he couldn't do anything more unless I gave him the Vehicle Identification Number on one of my vehicles. He would not give me his phone number to call back, but he did say he was located in Atlanta Georgia. I could not get any other information about his company or where he got my number.
We are on the do-not-call list, but I suppose that is no deterrent for identity thieves. We have two cars, one of which is well within warranty, and the other long out of warranty.
