Complaint / Review
Vandergriff Toyota
Of Arlington Texas, They will lie to get you in - don't fall for the bait

I was very nervous about going to a Toyota delership after a bad experience at one earlier this year - but while looking on-line I found three cars that were perfect for what I was looking for as far as style and price at Vandergriff Toyota two were MR2 Spyders and one Honda S2000. I found the cars about two weeks ago and after two weeks of trying to get my schedule coordinated with my husbands we finally both had to take a vacation day to go and get our new car. I checked daily online to make sure the cars were still posted (the cars are still posted on Cars.com, Autotrader.com and on the Vandergriff Toyota web sites as of this evening). This morning I called the dealership to confirm that the cars were still there (we live about an hour away from the dealership and I hate wasting time and gas) I spoke to a man named Emanuel who claimed to be the internet sales manager who assured me that they had all three cars (to be fair to him he did mention that he wasn't sure if one of them wasn't in negotiations - but he couldn't be sure) he told me just to hurry on down. So we did. We drove almost 50 miles to Arlington to the dealership with cash in hand ready to buy one of these cars.
A sales rep greeted us at the door and took us into his office and asked us all the usual questions; "are you trading in?" "Are you financing?" etc. We were vague about all the questions because of course we wanted to see the cars first. So he finally asked if there was a specific car we were looking for. My husband told him that we had looked online and found two different Mr2 Spyders and a Honda S2000 that we were intrested in looking at. He nodded and said "ok just follow me out to the lot". We followed this man all the way to the very back of the lot to a MR2 Spyder that was not one of the ones that we had looked at (the two we had seen online were manual and this was a newer year model and an automatic) and was conveniently priced $3000.00 higher. My husband immediatly noticed that it was the wrong car and told the sales man that this was not the car that we had wanted to see. He then decided to tell us that all three of the cars that we were wanting to see were already sold. I asked him " You sold them all - today?" He had no reply. I then pressed him a little harder and told him that I had called that very morning and had been told that the cars were here. He asked who I had spoken to and I told him that I had spoken to Emanuel (I only remebered the name because it is the same name as a close family friend of ours). He then said that we would have to go and speak with Emanuel and he left us - I have never in my life had a sales person leave me on the lot - he did not even walk us back to the building to find Emanuel - the coward knew that we had caught them in a lie and freaking ran away! I was so frustrated by this point that I told my husband that I just wanted to leave and told him that I would write a letter to the dealership manager later letting them know howw dishonest this practice is. We wasted a day of vacation and half a tank of gas because this dealership lied to us to bait us to come to their store. I can only imagine if they are this dishonest about trying to get people into their dealership that they must also be dishonest about other things.
