They damaged my bed but refuse to pay for it

We ordered a custom-made log bed on ebay, coming out of Idaho, with a total price of $474 including shipping. It was shipped through Lakeville Motor Express, a Minnesota company. As we unwrapped it we discovered the bed was damaged (the two vertical logs on the headboard were split, in pretty bad shape) so I took pictures and sent them to the seller. She told me to go ahead and file a claim. The claim consisted of printing a form off Lakeville's website and then faxing it back to them. They have never contacted me to see photos or to even talk to me about the problems with the bed. Yesterday I received a letter saying "this shipment was delivered on a clear delivery receipt, free from any exceptions." They go on to offer a compromise settlement of 1/3 or $158. This won't even cover shipping on a new headboard, let alone the purchase price of a new headboard. They're trying to blame it on us or on the shipper! I've emailed them three photos of the damage but I haven't heard back from them (they're terrible about returning emails or phone calls too). We'll do everything we can to make sure this particular company isn't used to ship anything here again.
