Liberty Linclon Mercury
Faluty engine repair and would honor the repai

I just found this site and I would like to warn everyone about Liberty Lincoln Mercury in Clifton NJ. The web address is libertylincolnmercur. Reachlocal.com
I bought my car there now 14 yeras ago. We never had a problem with the car until the repairs were done by them 1 1/2 yrs ago. The car went in running and in one week was totally destroyed. I know this if from almost two years ago but it still bothers me and I could not get any help from their corporate office, or anywhere else.

The owner was nasty and also would not honor the repair. They both lied for one another. It finally cost me another $2k (plus the $1k for the original repair) with the repair from another shop and the car rentals. It is not right that they can get away with this.

I have included the details below for review. I state it again Watch Out for Liberty Lincoln Mercury.
Joe Russo Repair
John Chirico General Manager 973-556-4119 ex 307

7/18/05 - Repair started on car by Liberty Lincoln Mercury Dealership Service
7/20/05 - We get loner car from Liberty Lincoln Mercury Dealership Service through
Enterprise car service.

7/21/05 - Pick up car from Liberty Lincoln Mercury Dealership Service

8/12/05 - Car will not turn over properly. Loud banging noise coming from the top of the engine. Sound is like a hammer hitting the inside top of the engine. Not thinking problem was the recent repair, and the time being after 5pm, Liberty was closed. Car is towed by AAA to Certified repair station.
8/13/05 - Spoke to mechanic at 10 am. Never told him about the recent repair done on the car. He said the problem is under the head, the valve is not working right, either the clips have come off, are broken or just one clip is damaged or off. After hearing this I told him about the work done. He said he will not work on the car to take it back and have it repaired under the warranty that they gave me, something was not done right. He told me that now because of this I can have a damaged valve or head or both.
8/15/05 - Called Liberty at 9am. Cindy said to have it towed in for them to look at. When I got there, I explained everything that I was told by the other Mechanic. She said that she will have a full damage report done on the car because I spent too much money on the repair of it for this to happen. I also told her to make sure that the valve and head are ok because they can now be damaged. She said she will have everything looked at. She also told me Joe Russo (Parts &Service Director) was not in and she will call me later. The call never came, so I called them at 4pm she said car was not looked at yet and will be tomorrow. She said she will explain everything to Joe when he comes in tomorrow 8/16/05

8/16/05 - No call, so I call at 3:30pm. Talk to Cindy. She said she saw the car go in and come out, but did not know the results. Puts me on hold to get Joe. He did not get on the phone because he was with someone. He tells her to tell me I need a new engine and he told me this. I told Cindy no I can't accept that, so she puts me to Joe's voice mail. I explain the same thing I told Cindy on Monday about the car and ask him to call me. He calls me bake at 4pm. He said to me quote " This is Joe, What makes you think that I am going to believe some Joe smow Mechanic that you take your other car to when I now my mechanics here and they know there job".

At this point I stopped him and said quote " Excuse me first you do not talk rude to me nor do you talk to me like I am some kind of Idiot. I just spent almost $1500.00 only to have the car break down have it towed only to be told it was due to the recent repair, plus I had to rent a car. I told him then I will pick up the car and get a third neutral opinion. He agreed then started to tell me how his mechanic removed the head and checked loose valve clips. I didn't understand how now the head can be removed, inspected and replaced that fast when it originally took two days to do. Then he proceeds to tell me that it's the lower end of the engine and I was down two quarts of oil and I'm not getting oil up to the top of the engine.

He now wants to check the oil pressure & take the oil pan off which is an easy job now, but when told b4 was a very hard and expensive job to do and check the bearings for his own knowledge to see what is going on and he want going to charge me because he was curious, after the conversation I had second thoughts and called at 4:45pm to tell him not to do it, but then I figured that they would say I wouldn't let them check the car out completely, so at 5:15pm I called back to tell him to proceed.
8/17/05 -I called at 12:30pm to see if complete with the results. He said he did not get 2nd msg and will now do it. He told me he would call me back with the results. No call, so I called at 4pm left msg that I need to know results to make decision on car and if I need to get third opinion I need to tow the car. Called again at 4:36pm left similar msg.
Called again at 4:57pm he picks up phone knows it's me and says that he has been in a meeting that's way he didn't call me back. He has no answer, the car will be looked at tomorrow in the morning. He will call me tomorrow.
8/18/05 - Get a call from Joe right b4 lunch. He said that the oil pressure is good and the oil pump is good. This was not the problem, the problem now is the timing belt skipped a tooth, the serpentine belt, and tensioner pulley. This was the sound it was hitting against the timing cover. He then proceeds to say quote" Here is what I'm gonna do for you, I'm gonna work with you, you pay $225.00 for the parts and I will eat all the labor which is a lot more than the parts to do this job. I told him I will think about it. He told me he will be there until 5pm because he will have to order the parts. I called him back after 5pm to tell him that I still think that it is due to the repair and that I feel that I shouldn't have to pay more for this.
I also said I understand mistakes are made, maybe he can talk to someone higher up like Mr. Chirico (General Manager) to see what can be done.
8/19/05 - I received a voice msg from him at 8:30am. His msg quote "I suspect you will have somebody come and get your car out of the dealership today. We are here until 5pm. We would like it off the property by 5pm, this way I don't have to have it here all weekend long. If you need any tow assistance or anything: wherever it is you are going to take it, I'll be glad to try and help you. I called him back shortly after 9 am. I spoke to him and told him that that is not the message I left. I never said that I was going to pick up the car I asked him to talk to his GM about the situation. He replied in a low nasty sounding voice. That's the deal I have. I said I will call you back. I called back at approx. 1pm and told him to proceed with the repair. The reason for this is because I spoke to my mechanic and he said He still knows that that is not the problem, but to have this work done would be three to four times the cost else where.

8/20/05 - I called at approx 9am and left a message for him to leave a detailed msg when the car is do on my voice mail because I will be out of the office and periodically checking my msgs.
8/22/05 - I get a call around 11- 11:30am. He proceeds to tell me that it is no good. This was not the problem and he did all this work for nothing because now the problem is my fourth cylinder. It is only at 15lbs while the other three are at 120 lbs pressure. He then told me that he was taking out all the parts and putting back my old ones. He also told me that the noise is gone but the car is now missing because of the damaged cylinder. He was going to put back the car to the way it was brought in. I told him how come the timing belt was not found with a problem on Tuesday and how come he told me different stories each time, and he said that this was the problem now it is not something is very wrong here. I told him then to do what he needed to do and call me. I will then have the car towed to my mechanic.
8/23/05 - He calls me at 1:30pm to tell me I can come and get the car. I get it towed at approx 2:45pm. When I get to the mechanic. He asked me to open the hood and start the car. The car was not the same way when it went in. The noise was fixed on the top and now was coming from the bottom of the engine. As a result of there mistake my engine was ruined. It is now going to cost me around $2k not taking into account the car rental costs and the money spent on the original repair.
Thank you for listening
