Where can I start.in March I brought my 1997 audi to the cottman service for a basic fluid change... While doing the service I was told that i had a small leak in the front seal and that the service center would charge me 409.00 to remove the transmission inspect and replace the seal... Ok. I approved the repair and was given a ride back to work... BIG MISTAKE! Do not leave your vehicle alone with this group! This story is long and painful. I will try to keep it short, After all the point I am trying to make is. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO COTTMAN! Anyway I was told that after removing my transmission and disassembling it.., certain parts "fell apart in the mechanics hands" (car ran great and shifted smoothly).. After a painful expenation I was basicly forced to spend 3200.00 to have my transmission reconditoned. (customer service told me I could have had them put that transmission back, Really! What about the broken parts?).. Ok. After waiting for the car for several days it was returned to me. I got about 3 miles from the shop and it would not shift correctly.."didnt anybody test drive the vehicle?".. Anyway returned the vehicle and waited several more days and p/u the car again. Once again the car would not shift correctly. This happened 5 times... They admittedly said they had no idea why. I heard every excuse you can possibly amagine. The center after the third time. Tried to help me by giving me a rent a car... (3 times) Only after a argued with them about getting my children and wife to work! (remember prior to this we were without a car for a total of 15 days on three different occassions) on one occassion we where loaded up and ready to go on vacation when to car had no reverse! (towed to cottman again and another 3 days without a car)... Now this is where I really relyed on Cottmans customer service. After numerous calls to the corporate office in Pa. I finally got a call from Mike Decula. He seemed to be helpful. Asking ME to go rent a car and fax the receipt to his office for payment (still do not have the check).. Once again after removing the transmission and re, reconditoning it I got the car back. And once again it did not shift correctly. Back to the shop for the 7th time. After a couple of days (without a car again) the vehicle was returned to me. And finnally it is now shifting correctly. But the brakes are not right they shutter when the vehicle comes to a stop... Well not to worry a call to Mike Decula should help, He told me to take it to the AAMCO service center in perth amboy for a second opinion. Ok. I did! They confirmed that a least now the transmission was shifting correctly (4 months later).. But what about the brake problem! Mike explained to me that they do transmissions not brakes and that I should take it to a brake specialist REALLY... They are the ones that removed the brakes to remove the transmission and apparently assembled them incorrectly. He told me that there was nothing he could do for me. And thought that I would have to sue them to repair the brake problem that only surfaced after the lastest removal and reinstall... So after 7 attempts they got the car shifting ok. Now they messed up the brakes! What a nightmare! Customer Service??? After all my family and I have been though they not only should have taken the responsibly to repair the brake problem they created, they should have sent us on the vacation we missed!!! Please do not use COTTMAN TRANSMISSION. And do not count on there customer service to do the right thingspread the word!!
