Unbelievable! It is always the same! I just red some of others people complains and are exactly what this guys do all the time. I have a Mitsubishi Eclipse 2003 with 45,000 miles. This car had the break pads replaced at 30,000.
I took the car to Just Brakes because there was shaking in the steering wheel every time I applied the brakes. I know that the I needed to have the rotors resurfaced. I quoted this at Mitsubishi and they told me it was $150. I called Just Brakes and they told me about the $99.99 special. It included the breaks in the four wheels, and the rotors resurfaced. Of course, I knew that I only needed the rotors resurfaced. Then, I thought well, it is a good deal since Mistsubishi charged me $300 for changing the front break pads.
Long story short, after an hour they called me. They said that I have a drum leaking fluid. Of course, this is not possible because the liquid level has never fluctuated. I red somebody else complain saying that they damage it on purpose. They also said the typical, uneven wear, calipers needing rework, the hardware (which buy the way they recommend to change every time they change shoes but it is not included in the 99 special), plus the front hard ware and of course $492 repair.
I negotiated with the technician, and left it in $420 tax. Of course, the system was old, of course, it does not work as new, but they were still functional! Not to mention, that my break pads and shoes were excellent.
At then end well, my brake system is new in an old car. Is it the best? Perhaps! Unnecessary? For sure! Therefore, a rip off. The sad story is that if you go to the dealer is super expensive and even more unnecessary changes. If you go to M* (REDACTED FOR SECURITY PURPOSES) or just brakes the same story. To whom should we trust? I hate going to mechanics. They always try to rip you off!
