I've had my car now for about 6 years. I've never gone anywhere else besides a Toyota dealer to have oil changed, engine checked, etc. For the past four years I've been taking it to a dealer up north in Rhode Island where they had EXCELLENT service.

Recently (a couple months ago), I took my car to get an oil change at Toyota in Cherry Hill. My first complaint would be that they got rid of the Express Lube, which guaranteed your car to be ready in 30 minutes or less. My second complaint, however is much worse. As I'm waiting (45 minutes) for my car to finish, one of the service men comes to me in the waiting room with a list of problems that my car seems to be facing (which they've done on previous occasions), each item with an estimate. The total estimate to fix all these "problems" was well over $900. Since I was only taking the car in for an oil change, I wasn't expecting the added cost and I didn't fully believe the guy.

I called a family member, who is a mechanic, and asked him if I could stop by his shop after Toyota so he could check out these "problems". I told the Toyota guy I wouldn't be getting anything other than an oil change that day, he said OK, we'll START the oil change and let you know when it's ready.

I wait 30 more minutes til my car is ready then immediately head over to my relatives shop. He opens my hood and right away we both notice they spilled oil ALL over my engine. It looked like they just dumped a bottle of oil under my hood. Then as my relative is checking to make sure they even changed the oil, I notice that a hose to my engine is disconnected! On top of all this, all the "problems" they listed didn't even exist.

After you get any service on your car from Toyota they usually send a survey. I never received one. And since I caught any potential damage almost immediately by getting a second opinion, I just felt it was never worth my time to make a formal complaint. But I'm happy I found this site so I can share my experience with other consumers. NEVER again will I take my car to Toyota of Cherry Hill and I discourage anyone else who considers it.
