I bought a car from carmax in Dec. 2006. After I bought the car I noticed the car had obviously been in accident since there was an attempt to touch up some paint on one side and there was overspray everywhere, also dirt under the paint and tiny dimples commonly known as "fish eye". I took the car back to have them do the job correctly.
When I received the car back it looked like they had done nothing except wash the car. So of course I took it back again. It took them 3 weeks to do a simple paint job on one side of the car. They have a 30 day repair warranty and they had the car for over half the time of my warranty.
When I finally got the car back there was a deep scratch on the rear bumper that wasn't even there when I bought the car. They said all they could do was put some touch up paint on it, instead of getting a new bumper cover put on like they should have done.
A couple of weeks later I got a flat tire from a nail in a parking lot. The warranty doesn't exclude flat tires but when I went back again the manager, George and the head person in charge of the shop, Ted, both told me the flat tire isn't part of the warranty. I also spoke to the General Manager of the store, Glen and he pretty much said that he had heard about me already, it wasn't covered, and to take a hike. Even if it wasn't covered they should have taken care of it as courtesy for screwing up the work that had been done before.
By that time I was really pissed off about their poor service so I called their corporate headquarters and was told that yes, THE TIRE SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED! I couldn't believe even the general manager didn't know his own company's warranty! All he did was stick up for his own employees without even hearing the customer's side. Only with the help of the corporate office was I able to get refunded, and that was only for them putting a rubber plug in the hole instead of giving me a new tire.
Needless to say I will never do any business with Carmax ever again.
