USA Engine Denial

Our 1994 Toyota 4Runner's engine just failed. I thought at 99,000 miles this was early for what is reputed to be a reliable vehicle. We had been reasonable with oil changes and tune ups and saw no warnings.

I called the Toyota USA 1-800 number and they blamed us, the owner.

The representative says the 1994 v6 3.0 ltr 4Runner engine is not covered by any warranty or other program. This engine is not included in the sludge/gel warranty program.

I commented on our agency? S Crown Vics not blowing engines below 100,000 miles. He stated that Toyota engines are manufactured to high tolerances? In the microns, and Detroit manufactures theirs with tolerances in the inches. Therefore Toyota engines must be properly maintained.

Without knowledge of when the oil changes were done, he stated Toyota engine failure such as ours is due to improper maintenance by the owner. He said if an oil change was due at 4 months and it was delayed to 5 months this could cause engine failure. He said the oil could turn to gel and with such close tolerances it would not circulate in the engine appropriately.

Charlene... Please contact me with info on testing facilities. I have photographed the engine as it is being dismantled and will keep all parts. I am not willing to pay $4500 for an overhaul and I am proceeding with a lawsuit. Any advice will be appreciated.
