I have worked for peppy for some time now. I have noticed a lot of piss poor service over the years. I can only say it is getting worse not better! You need to understand that Pepboys is a greety company. Make the money, worry about the customer complaints later. GET THE MONEY! I have seen service managers lie, just to try and make their #. You see Pepboys pays them a salary plus bonuses. The bonuses is where the problem is. The manager wants to make the extra money and once they get a taste of it, they want it even more. There are a lot of contributing factors on their bonuses, such as; injury claims, beating last years dollar amount for the current week, expenses for that time period, damage claims, etc.
One time I was working on a ford. I had the hood up while doing maintenance. I had some tools under the hood while I raised the vehicle with the lift. While I was raising the vehicle the hood fell shut. It fell due to weak hood supports. Well, when the hood fell the tools where between the hood and the radiator support and the hood was damaged! I let my service manager know and explained what happened. Later towards the evening the customer must of called and asked if the car was ready for pick up.
The service writer yelled out asking if it was complete, the customer was on thier way down to pick it up. I had already pulled the car out and it was getting dark. So, I went out and drove it up to the bay door where it was light so the sevice manager could show the customer what happened and explain it, and work the repair procedure. Later after wasahing my hands I noticed the car pulling away. I asked the service manager what the customer said about the ding in thier hood. He said, "I didn't tell them, if they have a problem with it they will be back". THIS IS BULL! Keep in mind their BONUS MONEY!
Pepboys is now doing transmission flushes. They would rather pay a tire installer to do it rather then a Qualified mechanic. The tire installer usually is a young man maybe even still in high school with very little experience. Usually their first experience is on your car. I have seen cars in for trans flushes get only drain and fills. The bottle of flush is never used! Worse yet these kids don't even put the additive in with the trans fluid. This additive is suppose to bring the generic fluid to particular manufactors specification. Now your car is worse off then when it came in to pepboys. Once again it is about the dollar!!! Your dollar! CONSUMERS BEWARE
Maybe ask that only qualified personel work on your car. Or ask to see the credentials of the person who is going to work on your car.
