I'm an employee for this company, and have been for a number of years. Lately, I have noticed some poor practices of the company. The company proudly displays a blue and white sign, (ASE) Automotive Service Excellence, outside thier service department. This is put there to show the customer that they have Qualified personel working there.
For the most part they do, or should I say they did!!! Pepboys new approuch seems to be as follows; They will have one or two techs that are qualified but the rest are not!!! So when you bring your car into a pepboys for expert service, for the most part you are not recieving it!
I witness a guy consistantly doing brake jobs and he isn't qualified. I'm thankfull it isn't my car. This man can not even read a micrometer. But this is the expert service you are paying for.
One day I watched another man in this same facility jump up and down continuosly and shouting out, "this isn't that hard. Im a mechanic now! This is my first brake job and I just nocked it out". Was your car the TEST SUBJECT? I hope not.
This company has a lot to learn about ethics. See, they display this sign getting you to come in. Charge you a premium price to get the work completed by a professional and the person they have doing it isn't. They have just as much experience as you do. You would be just as well attempting it yourself.
These are big business decisions. Charge a fair price, then get a man they don't have to pay much money, to try and do the work. Rather then pay an expert to do it. MORE PROFIT at the customers risk. All the while fooling the customer in thinking an expert is working on thier car. This makes me sick. They are doing a dishonor to all qualified technicians and cheating the cusumer.
Pepboys has raised thier labor rate 10% in one year. More profit. I over heard a district manager say "I love this program, I can get installers to do the work and don't have to pay a technician to do it".
