Blue Ridge Mazda
I went to Blue Ridge Mazda on Saturday May 14 with my husband to purchase a car. I wanted to go to a used car lot but my husband did not want me being taken advantage of so we went to Blue Ridge Mazda.
When we got to the dealership we walked around before being approached by a man named Victor, he said he was from Texas. He asked us what we were looking for and we told him a four-door family car. He pointed us in the right direction, left us alone for a few minutes and we proceed to look at the cars. We looked at several but decided we liked a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. He got a copy of my husband's license, I only had a permit at the time, and then we went for a test drive in the car.
After the test drive, Victor took us inside to see Steve. Steve ran a check on us to see if we qualified for the car. I was filling out paperwork with my correct address while this was going on. I was told at that time that I could have the car if I got a cosigner. I did not want a cosigner but I needed a car so we started calling around and I started filling out new paperwork.
We called several family members to see if they would be willing to help us. My aunt agreed to be the cosigner.
Steve said they could get the 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix financed through HSBC. We selected the car; test drove the car, and agreed to the terms before my aunt showing up at the dealership.
I was up front and honest with both Steve and Victor about only having a permit. They said as long as I got the license before the car was registered it was okay. They also told me to use my aunt's address even thought they had a pay stud and my initial documents with the correct address. I was crystal clear about living with my mother-in-law, that why we tried to get her to cosign first.
I have never purchased a car so I did what Steve asked. My aunt did not know we were using her address she was not privy to that conversation. I never thought to mention it because I did not think they were doing anything wrong. I do not want my aunt, who was only trying to help me, to think for one minute I was in cahoots with Steve in trying to deceive her. My husband said this was a legitimate dealership and I believe him and I did not question what Steve was doing.
Three days before the 30-day tags expired, I went to see if the paperwork was done. It was not. They said if the tags expired come back and get some more. The day they expired I went back to the dealership and my paperwork was finally ready. They told me to take the paperwork, get the car tagged and the car would be mine.
I picked out the car, test drove the car with my husband and Victor, put the money down for the car, got the 30-day tags for the car, got the car insured, started the account with the lien holder for $25, paid the property taxes and have been making the payments and keeping the insurance up every since. I thought my name was supposed to be listed as the buyer. My aunt is upset and I am upset. I was not running some game on my aunt. I was told she would be the cosigner and that is what I believed. I would not lie to my aunt. I would not have her sign on the wrong line of the application so I could get a car. She came to the dealership on good faith. I was not in cahoots with Steve to defraud my aunt.
If you by a car from Blue Ridge Mazda BUYER BEWARE! They have very deceptive sales practices. Get copies of everything! Check all your paperwork because you may just discover you are not the owner of your vehicle.
