My wife and I purchased a van from ugly duckling in march. First, we were told and assured that our loan was 2 years, no longer as Ugly Duckling "didn't believe in long extended loans", how wrong was this, after review of our conract at a later date when we tried to trade our vehicle we discovered our loan was for 3 years and that we were paying over $11,000 on a vehicle with a value of less than $5,000, which makes it impossible to use as a trade at a Major Dealership (Ford, Chevy. Etc..).
The vehicle ran fine for about 8 months when suddenly the water pump, serpintine belt, fan clutch and radiator hoses all suddenly went out... Mmm. What timing. Ugly Duckling said that they would repair the van and that they would break the charges up over a few payments which at the time seemed like the best thing and most affordable at the time to do. Since then we have been having concerns with the transmission as it seems to slip and use alot of fluid.
The biggest problem came when Ugly Duckling some how manged to screw up a payment. The check that we used to make a payment a month earlier some how managed to get re-ran by Ugly Duckling when we made our payment that week, in effect The Duck received 2 payments at once, normally this would be good. You get a payment ahead. Not this time as it came at the 1st of the month. The time when my rent is due, this extra charge caused my account to be short and caused me to run up quite a few (over $130 worth) over draft fees, all due to the Ugly Duckling over charging me. We tried to go through the local dealership which had no success, as they simply told me not to worry and that we should be happy that we're ahead 1 payment (what a way to look at it), I then asked how to speak to a district manager and was pretty much ignored so I decided to use the information super highway and e-mail their corporate office.
Well, after speaking to them the local dealership did refund us the extra check but did not refund any of the over draft charges we had to cover, their reason was that it wasn't their fault we had overdraft charges. I told them again that if they hadn't taken the extra money all our checks would have cleared, this still had no success as we had to eat the over draft charges. Regardless we have tried several times to get out of this vehicle and have no success as no dealership wants to eat the balance we owe on this piece of crap, so it looks like we're stuck with this gas guzzling monster for another year and a half. You can bet that we'll never reccommend the Duck to anyone!
