I wish I would have reported these theives along time ago. About two years ago I purchased a car from them for about 2,900 dollars. I needed a car and only had a little bit of money and no credit, so I didn't want to try for a loan anywhere. They took advantage of the fact that I was a woman and I had cash to pay for it and drive it off the lot.
I drove the car for about 1 month and 1 week before the brakes started making a horrible screeching sound. Very upset about this my husband took it in and said that this wasn't acceptible because they had claimed an inspection warranty. They claimed that you could not drive a car off their lot unless it was inspectable, which they claimed it was. So when they took it in to check they brakes they called later that afternoon and said it was good and they had replaced the brakes and we shouldn't have any more problems with the brakes. About another month and a half later I had the car at my father's house in a town three hours away from where I lived. I had drove my two babies about 356 miles thinking I was in a safe car. While there my dad suggested we have them looked at because he was hearing a sound that didn't sound good. We took the car to VIP and they did a free inspection. After taking the wheels off it was obvious that the brakes had NEVER been replaced and they the routers were badly worn and brake fluid was pouring from them. I am not mechanic but he couldn't believe that I was driving this car around. When I arrived back home I called Bangor Car CAre and got no response. I called again the next day and the secretary gave me a run around. Then I called the next day and no response again. My husband finally called and they said they would call him back. The secretary called me instead of my husband at work which was the number left. She was trying desperately to intimidate me but when she realized that that would not happen she explained that the owner would agree to replace the brakes for about 30% out of his pocket. I said no thank you I have seen the kind of work your auto mechanics do and it should be dealt with by a lawyer if they were not going to pay. It seemed to that they broke the law somehow by claiming that the inspection sticker was leagal when they new they had used faulty parts.
I later that week took my car to VIP where they replaced everything to make it inspectable about 1300 dollars later; at least half of what I had paid for the car in the first place.
We contacted Bangor Car Care and they refused to return our call. I still have the parts from the car and the receipts of what they had to do with it and the auto mechanics comments. (which weren't good). But I never did anything with ammunition to get them into trouble. Reading this other ladies story prompted me to write so at least other people may not buy from them. I would STRONGLY recommend against ever doing business with this company. They are theives and very bad people who would allow a mother to drive her babies 9 mos and 2 years around in a car that could have lost its brakes at any time. I shudder at the thought of what could have happened. So remember just because they have a catchy commercial and lots of advertising does not make them trustworthy.
