Ripoff! Accounting Nightmare!"Lost" auto payment, 7 months of harrassment!

I am in my 7th month of a payment dispute with Drive Financial Services.

I purchased my new car in December. Due to my negative credit history, Drive Financial was my last ditch option for auto financing. The APR is 21%, so I vowed to make every payment on time and figured in a year I would be able to maybe refinance. I did make every payment on time; however, I am unable to refinance and my credit report has another negative due to an error in Drive's accounting department, which they have been unable to resolve.

In late October I was contacted by a Drive Financial representative who informed me that my October payment was past due. I knew that I had made my payment on time and immediately contacted my bank to verify, which they were able to do on the spot. I was asked to fax my bank transaction record to Drive, which I did and thought that the matter would be taken care of.

A week went by and I received another call from an account rep who, when I explained the situation, told me that it was not the October payment that was in question, but the July payment. I was told that their accounting system had undergone a change and if I would please check and fax that information they would get it resolved. I did that. Another couple of weeks went by and I received another call with the same outcome. This has been a never ending story, right to this afternoon with the story changing from the payment in question being July to October.

This afternoon was the last straw. I received another call at my office and when I returned the call and explained for the (I don't know how many) time, I was transferred to a Supervisor who the Customer Service rep was sure would be able to help me. I explained the story AGAIN and the Supervisor (who's name is Clayton at ext. 4606) apologized and requested that I fax my October statement and he would hand-carry it to accounting tomorrow. I will digress by saying that this was not the first time I had been handed that line. The insult to this ongoing injury is that I was given an incorrect fax number by Clayton (214) 292-2337 and when I tried to reach him at his extention, the customer service department said that the number was not a working extention.

I have been extremely patient and tried to get this resolved without retaining an attorney, but at this point feel that maybe that is the only way to get Drive Financial to attend to this matter.

I want to caution everyone out there... If you have credit problems and think that Drive Financial is the only way to get yourself back in the black, consider resolving your credit issues before buying and putting yourself at the mercy of this company who (1) has major accounting gaps, and (2) refuse to own their mistakes and do whatever it takes to correct them. Just because I had credit problems doesn't make me a 2nd class citizen who doesn't have the right to fair service from a financial provider.
