Being new to the Nashville area I had no contacts in the auto business, but like a salesman at Champion Ford. I chose to visit on the evening of Dec. 23, a bad night with an ice storm closing in. It was late and I was not prepared to make a deal, however I found myself being pressured to take delivery that night of a new truck.
One of the sales managers took the time to tell me a lengthy story of how wonderful the mileage would be, in excess of 18 mpg. Etc.
We verbally hashed out the numbers, but little did I know their math was nowhere near what I thought I we were talking about. One bad deal, my fault.
The story gets better.
The truck was delivered to me in the dark and in the freezing rain. I did not notice the broken rearview mirror and light. Because of the ice storm I was unable to return immediately. The ice lasted 6 days during which the front end was damaged by a Electric Service truck in my own driveway.
Therefore, the mirror was blamed on me. Champion refused responsibility.
I also complained about a serious front end problem that made the vehicle dangerous to drive. Twice they could not fix it.
A rural mecahnic ended up fixing it several months later.
The 18 mpg diesel only gets 10. They said it would improve after the first 3- 5000 miles.
Nope.
They put a computer on it and drove it. The computer said 17 mpg. I have all the reciepts with the mileage.
Now the truck has only 6500 on it and is constantly telling me there is water in the fuel. The separator has been drained repeatedly.
I have had 11 Ford trucks. Most financed with FMC. When I asked them to go through FMC, they told me I couldn't get a good rate from them? I have an 8.5 beacon score. They put me through some bank at a high % rate, and just a few weeks later started advertising that truck at 0% through FMC.
I called to ask them to refinance through FMC and they basically told me to GO F*K myself in a polite way.
We all know car dealers suck, but these jerks are the worst I've dealt with.
