Complaint / Review
Sharrett, Sharrett Pontiac
Ripoff deceptive practices fraud

On April 14, I took my 1996 Pontiac Grand Am to Sharrett Pontiac service department to have my oil change and a 25-point inspection.

On the Comprehensive Vehicle Maintenance Inspection report, it was noted that the rear and front brakes were checked and that they measured 7/32". The service manager Michael Shoop stated that the inspection was done properly and that the service technician who inspected my car was a very good mechanic and does a good job. After taking my car to Midas, which is where I usually go for brake work to have a second opinion, Midas stated that the rear brake drums had not even been removed, and the rear brakes measured 2/32. So how Sharrett Pontiac came to these measurement conclusions is beyond me!!!

I called Michael Swoop at Sharrett Pontiac and stated to him that I would bring my car back in the next day to have them look at it again.

I went back to Sharrett Pontiac on April 15 and was told that Midas was correct. The repair technician who worked on my car at Sharrett Pontiac stated to Mr. Swoop that he never removed the rear tire to physically inspect the rear brakes and he just arbitrarily wrote a false reading on the comprehensive vehicle maintenance report and also stated to Mr. Swoop, the parts manager that he did in fact fraudulently note on the inspection report that he had done work that he did not actually do.

This obviously poses a great safety concern and risk to consumer safety when service technicians at an auto dealership falsify inspection reports and mislead the consumer, especially when it concerns something as important as a brake inspection.

I feel that if this type of practice is somehow condone at this repair facility that other consumers besides myself may be at great risk of their safety.

Because of Sharrett's negligence in this matter and blatant attempt to give me the false sense of security that my brakes were in better condition than they actually were, I feel that they should replace my rear brakes at no additional charge. This would be the only way that they can be assured that this will never happen to another customer at their facility again.
