Bash Engine Inc. Royal screwing by Ahmir & Eli

I had my engine overhauled at Bash Engine Inc. January 1999. After the work was completed and I picked up my car, I noticed that the paint on the hood and the metal had been scrached and damaged in four places. I knew that they had not removed the hood after the removal of the engine because I had passed by to check on the car and saw the hood intact and the engine had been removed. It took me an hour to get some kind of compensation from them right then before I paid for the overhaul. All I got was $125. I got screwed.

Seven months after the overhaul my engine started to excrete a lot of white smoke through the tail pipe. I brought it back. They kept the car and said that they replaced the intake manifold gaskets. Two months later it started again. I made them replace the head gaskets which is what they should have done the first time. They tried to fault me by saying that the engine was overheating and that I had a problem with either the thermostat, water pump, fan clutch or radiator and that they did me a favor by not charging me to do the head gaskets "again" becuase it was not covered under the warranty. They obviously never replaced the head gaskets at time of overhauling the engine. When I got the car back they had intentionally broken the driver side bucket seat with a wrecking bar at the fold of the seat. Luckily, I found a welding shop that welded the upper section of the bucket seat to the lower for only $5! And the guy did not really want anything. I just tipped him! It only took 3 minutes to weld! They damaged my transmission becuase it no longer changed gears. I had to have the transmission rebuilt to the tune of $450. Screwed again!

This past February my mechanic told me I needed to replace my timing chain saying that it was obvious Bash Engine Inc. Did not replace my old timing chain with a new one and he found that the gaskets that had to be removed when he replaced the chain had not been replaced either, which were the gaskets to the water pump, fuel pump, oil seal, oil pan, etc. He said they looked old. He had to remove all of that in order to replace the chain anyway so he was not benefiting from it giving me false information. He has done repairs on my car for 10 years. He always explains the whys and hows and if it is worth doing any repairs before anything is ever done on the car.

I filed a complaint with the DMV in New York but I was told that regarding the seat and the transmission there was no way I could prove they damaged those two items. Unfortunately, they are correct. I cannot prove it. I do know that the seat was not broken when I dropped off the car and the transmission was changing gears. After all, I drove there did I not? As far as the smoking, I was told that if within 90 days it begins to smoke again, that I was to file the complaint again. Fortunately, that has not happened.

They felt that my being a female gave them carte blanche to take advantage of me and they just went to town on me. I had such a bad experience with those guys. I would like to prevent other people from experiencing the same thing or possibly worse. I would be very happy if details of this incident can reach people in the New York vicinity.

Stay away from Bash Engine Inc. If anyone has any questions about this situation, feel free to e-mail at [email protected]. I will be glad to give you more information if I can.

I have been reading over a lot of the other complaints about repair work and transmission work and I have got to tell you, I am extremely scared to bring my car to repair shops. Of course, I have done it, but I now have a mechanic who works from his home when he is not at his carburetor shop and get by that way.
