My 2002 PT cruiser's transmission went out on a Thursday. I made it to a shop, but they didnt work on transmissions. Then I took it to the Chrysler dealer, but they couldnt look at it till Monday. Then they called to get First Extended Service Corporation to authorize the claim. It took them over 24 hours to authorize a used replacement, but would not cover Fluid, sealer, cleaner, or gasket.
Then, since the repair was to take 8 hours, they would only cover the rental for one day. Now since it took them 24 hours to authorize, and another 24 hours to get the part, I am requesting that they cover 3 days of the rental. Then since the fluid and cleaner, sealer, and gasket were in good working order prior to the repair, they should cover this as well.
My suggestion:
Buy a manufacturer's extended warranty or one from your own auto insurer. Don't buy a third-party contract. Don't buy an extended service contract from an automobile dealer or anyone else until you've had time to think about it and shop prices. You do not have to make this decision at the moment you're buying your vehicle.
