On October 24, I bought a Chevrolet Blazer from an auto dealership I've used before. Citibank financed my loan. At some point Santander Consumer USA took over the loan from Citibank. I paid-off the Blazer in October as agreed. Since paying the vehicle off Santander continued billing me. I have no late history on my payments over the life of the loan and never was contacted by Santander to inform me of any problems.
In fact neither Citibank or Santander ever contacted me regarding any problems with this loan. It was only after the maturity date of the loan passed that I contacted Santander and told them they owed me my title to the truck. Santander demanded an additional three payments of $279.13 telling me the loan would be paid off in December. The vague explanation for these additional payments was "unpaid interest on the loan."
So I made all three payments as instructed.
