When I came to Cal Worthington I asked them for a safe car to drive in Alaska. I told them I had no prior experience driving in the snow. They sold me a Ford Explorer sport Pick-Up, and told me it had front wheel drive and snow tires. Perfectly safe to drive on snow and ice. They said front wheel drive may not be as good as all wheel drive, but it would be just fine.
As soon as the first snow fell, the car was a truckload of trouble - it got stuck all the time, even in the middle of the road. When I slid down a hill (!) I had the car checked out. As it turned out, the 'snow tires' were completely useless all season tires, and the car had a rear wheel drive.
Rear wheel drive on a pick-up is bad news. Rear wheel drive on any car in the snow is bad news. A rear wheel drive pick-up is the least safe a car can get in Alaska. I called them and complained. The agreed to trade it in. Which was when the real hassle began:
Not only did they basically tell me I had to trade it in for this one specific car they wanted me to buy, they also treated me incredibly rudely - all behind a mask of smiles. They made me wait three hours in the waiting room before the papers were ready, they never even gave me a choice which car I WANTED, and then they didn't have their paperwork in order (this happened with the truck, too).
All the while they were being very unprofessional: misplacing forms, asking for information three or four times, never really knowing the status of anything, never knowing what was going on with the car in the first place.
To top it all off, the 2nd car also didn't come with snow tires.
