Harassment and Assault

On July 9th at approximately 2:45 pm I was on my way home from Norman to Oklahoma City and decided to stop in a nail salon that I have never been to before called LX Nails.

I walked in the shop and I told them I would like a manicure and a pedicure. A woman ran the water for my pedicure and did NOT put in a sani-tablet in the water.

I man then came over to start my pedicure. He was a disabled man with a very unsteady gate due to a left trans-tibial amputation and an extremely unsteady bilateral hand movement. This man cut me 2 different times with the cuticle cutters. I had to tell him to stop with the cutters and just paint my toenails.

After the pedicure the same man began the worst manicure I have ever had in the past 15 years. The owner, Jeannie Tran completed the manicure after noticing how poorly it looked.

When she completed my manicure I handed her my credit card. She said “you give me cash”. I then told her I did not have any cash with me but I could go home and bring cash back, and that I live very close. She then stated, “give me check or cash now”. I said I did not have cash or a check with me and showed her inside my purse. Next she yelled “go next door and get me cash from ATM”. I said I do not have a check card, I will have to go home and get the money for you. The owner, Jeannie P Tran and the two men working in the shop began to yell at me and say “we don’t trust you, we LOCK you in the building”. The man that did my pedicure and part of my manicure then proceeded to the door and locked me in the building which was extremely traumatic… How was I supposed to give them money unless I could go home….. After 30 minutes of hearing repetitive screaming and the statement “we don’t trust you, you give us money now” I then started to realize these abusive individuals were not going to release me from the building, so I saw their cordless phone sitting on one of the manicure tables and picked it up and I called 911.

I told the 911 dispatcher that I was locked in LX Nails and I needed help to not be locked in the building and I needed an officer to take me home to get cash or I needed to be released by an officer so I could go home myself in order to bring them money instead of being held hostage in a building. I told the dispatcher I was extremely scared and did not know what these people were capable of.

After about 25 minutes of waiting on a officer to arrive at LX Nails I told the owner that I needed the ability to go home and get cash and I needed to get my son that was with a babysitter who was expecting me much sooner had I not been locked in their building!
The two men working there stood up and continued to harass me and yell at me. I was very scared and tried to unlock the business door when one of the men came from behind and grabbed and twisted my left wrist, then he pushed me and I twisted my ankle. I began to yell “do not touch me, do not lay you hands on me”. I then waited by the door for the police officer. When she arrived I asked her to take me home so that I could get money. I gave the officer my ID and contact information and she just told me to go home and get the money for the services I owed them.

I took pictures of LX Nails shop. There is not one sign present stating that they do not accept credit cards. I cannot believe I was locked in a building and not able to leave until I called 911 and an officer came to my rescue. What if this incident has happened to other people besides me? What if they assault someone else? What if I had not called 911…. Would they have beat me in the head or pulled out a gun? I have physical bodily injuries due to being assaulted.

Finally…I did not feel safe returning to this establishment after being released by the Oklahoma City police officer so I had a friend came from Edmond to take LX Nails the money from my manicure and pedicure, which from their sign with prices displayed should have come to a total of $44.00. Although I will be reporting this to the BBB, the shop charged my friend $57.00 and initially refused to provide him a receipt. Finally the owner, Jeannie P Tran had to find a receipt book….. What kind of business does not have a receipt book readily available??? What kind of respectable establishment makes up arbitrary costs other than what they have posted on their price list?

This place of “business” is not sanitary or safe for customers. The restroom did not even have toilet paper, soap, or paper towels. There was dust on everything. There is a huge TV on an unsteady stand. There was a lot of clutter everywhere in this establishment as well. And at the VERY least LX Nails should not have a man with hands that shake providing services and should be required to post signs stating that credit cards are not accepted.
