Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company
Unfair Job practices and Mismanagement

This company is build very nicely and in a lovely building, the customer service there is great, but the file clerk position for filing the insurance claims is not very good at all. I worked here for a month, and lost my job over what was deemed as job performance, but I didn't have an issue over job performance and was never counseled about it.in fact the manager who claimed I had the issue of job performance Sean Alan Northcraft, not only didn't train me properly, he didn't train me at all. He never really worked with me other than just being in the fileroom doing his own thing. Sean Alan Northcraft was far too busy flirting with and following another woman in the isles of work, named Jenny, by the way Sean is married with a son doing this. He had me work on many papers to file (stacks of them), but never praised my work really, and never really talked to me in regards to making my work better. This place is very shaddy, and not totally appreciative of their new employees, and will take the word of a permanent employee over the word of a temporary employee, even if the temporary employee is right and the permanent employee is in the wrong. It wasn't just this, it was the fact, that he told the management above him, he counseled me about misfiling paperwork and he never did; he only spoke to me one time about loose papers in the folders, when they aren't hole punched or they aren't always put in the prongs which the other employees file so they would be loose, and he spoke to me and another man Nino (who was recently hired too) about misfilings of folders, but not me individually about the misfilings of folders like he said to the management I had been counseled about it a few times - I wasn't.in general, the manager Sean Alan Northcraft, did say to me and Nino that it is possible those folders could have been misfiled long ago, but he never counseled me by myself, like he lead the management to believe. I emailed the company about my concerns, and was emailed back from Beth Wallace (a manager I never met with, never saw, never heard of her name before the emails - she never approached me to even saw hello to a new employee there either) about my concerns when I lost my job about this manager Sean Alan Northcraft, and about how I feel I didn't have a job performance issue, and she said they don't tolerate harassment or discrimination there and it's based about their concern of my job performance - end of story... When I mentioned to the manager Beth Wallace through email, about their other manager Sean following the girl Jenny in the isles, and how I was singled out for job performance issues when it wasn't necessarily me who was talked to individually about it - and how I feel to single someone out when you actually don't see them misfile is discriminatory, you have 2 people putting folders away, and at the time I put the folders away, Sean wasn't there, he only saw them put away in the day when the work was already done and they sat on the shelves, not at night when I actually put the folders away and I'm actually doing the job of putting the folders away. See my hours working there was from 3 pm to 12 am, Sean's hours were from 8 am to 5 pm (sometimes he'd stay later, but never there long enough to see me file folders which he said I misfiled). The folders weren't put away till after 7 pm, for the most part when the majority of the insurance people working there put the files in their cubicles right before they left to go home - you put the folders away after everyone else leaves there because the majority of the people work from 8 am to 5 pm (sometimes some stay later like 6 pm, but no later than 7 pm). You can't put all the folders away as the people for the insurance working with the insured's use them during the day for their cases, so you have to put them away at night to not distract them or take away from their work. This is why it doesn't make a lot of sense at the job performance issue being seen or me being counseled for it. BUT because of the at will hiring/firing... Hired or fired for any reason or no reason at all, there is no recourse or action that can be done to fix it... Then again if the employer is the way I describe why would I want to work for them, but in this tough job market, a 10 dollar an hour job is better than no job - it was hard at the time to find any job... But to be fired unfairly hurts me and how i feel - it's not just about the pay - it is the accusation - to me, putting a folder in the wrong place is like i am not smart enough to see, read, or file - when it is a tedious job not a job which requires critical thinking... But then again the employer is in the wrong too because... THEY don't answer all emails with concerns or questions, don't train or work with their employees well, don't go over safety, guidelines, rules, and procedures, any of that at all ESPECIALLY FOR THE FILE CLERK POSITION FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN AND EXPERIENCED... When you bring up a concern they say they don't tolerate it, and that's it, nothing more, but just because you don't tolerate something doesn't mean it's not happening there, and then they say when they don't tolerate things like harassment or discrimination that it's on you and solely based on you why you lost the job, not for any other reason dealing with mismanagement - THEY TAKE NO OWNERSHIP IN ANYTHING IN REGARDS TO YOUR JOB LOSS, so in other words they don't regard anything you have to say as creditable, when they can look at the facts of what your saying to prove it is creditable... The reason why I am writing this review about Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company, is not to make their business look bad at all, it is just to say I didn't have a positive working experience there, and I lost my job unfairly... If other people learn about my job loss here and are applying there, they might think of this and keep this in mind, because it could happen to them too... Even if Sean Alan Northcraft is not working at Universal anymore and is in the U.S. Coast Guard, it is something to keep in mind how the management does not take your concerns very seriously, and does not work with you in listening to you about your concerns... Not only this, but the majority of the file clerks there are new, and there is an extremely high turn over rate with them being there less than 6 months... Not to mention another temporary employee worked for them and had a complaint about another permanent employee there too like I did, but with a different person, this permanent employee was named, Minnie, and she created a situation where he this other temporary employee was used by Minnie for his personal information (like she befriended him, but fake), and they got into a dispute, and instead of them listening to his side of the story, he lost his job and they kept the permanent employee even though she is wrong... But, I found Minnie and Tammy working in the fileroom to be rude and not genuine (but fake) in many aspects, so I can see how that could happen to the other temporary employee with Minnie, the temporary employee before me who worked there, they fired, for an issue which was not his fault like my job loss not really my fault either... So now you have 2 temporary employees from different agencies having a conflict there in the fileroom... It is just something to keep in mind if you work there or if you have a job there, and how they treat people and how they do people there, especially if your new, in the fileroom in particular, they stack work on top of you, tons of papers to file more than anyone else permanent there, because you are new... My goal in my complaint about them is to tell the facts, and it is factual based on my experience, so it is not to hurt, oppress, and slander Universal in any way or to accuse them of things unfounded or untrue, it is to tell the truth about what happened there... So hopefully this review will help others make informed decisions when they think of or pick Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company especially for a job... I've since found other employment which is better fit for me - I am not writing this review because I lost my job and I'm upset either, it is based on what occured - I have since found other employee so it's not to be malicious or mean writing this - it is to state what did occur, but I just don't want someone to go through what I went through while working there - might save you grief or financial loss... So hope it helps...
