Sold through The Gourmet Advantage (northeasern US) door to soor sale flash frozen meat fish poor quality for price

Wife and son purchased these products from a door to door seller. I wish I had been home. The average price worked out to around $^. 00 a pound for the steaks and hamburgers they bought.

The quality of the beef left a lot to be desired. Contrary to other reports filed here on Midwestern beef, the meat is edible, but at 6 bucks a pound you can do a lot better at your local store. If you never eat steak, you may be pleased, but if you do you will be misled. The steaks look great, but thatw out and open the package and you can tell something is 'off". The meat has had been enhanced by something, sort of what you may see in todays pork available in stores... There is a smooth coating of liquid on the meat and a lot of moisture comes out when you cook it. All the steaks so far have tasted faintly like pot roast, and you have to REALLY watch the cooking, they go from raw to cooked in minutes... Very hard to get medium or medium rare. The meat is tender, but why is what creeps me out. Some of the steaks have had a thick vein of gristle in them. The trimming of fat has been ok, there is not a lot of obvious fat on the steaks.

Now the burgers. Ugh. They are very greasy and fatty. The calories listed on the side is 500 and of those, 410 come from fat. That's 75% of the fat you are supposed ot eat every day. Ugh. There were two different burgers in the packaes they bought, the one I described was the sorta flower shaped one. The nutition lable is there, but no address for the company and it only states "100% minimally processed chopped beef steaks"... Well THAT leaves it pretty wide open as to how much beef fat is in there.

Nowhere on the boxes or labels does it state the steaks are enhanced, but what else could it be? That liquid is not naturally occuring beef juice like you would see in the butcher shop. You certainly do not need to salt these steaks. And if you LIKE pot roast, go for it, but stripo steak and filet sould NOT taste like pot roast.

Over all, I would not have purchased over 200 dollars worth of this meat. Go to your local store instead. They do offer a return policy, but be careful—you only three business days to file a complaint, and even then you have to return all the unused products in original packaging.

I'd avoid any meat sold door to door. And i would avoid The Gourmet Advantage and Midwestern Beef.
