This was our first visit to tail of the pup and it will be our last. The customer service at this restaurant was the worst we have ever had. Prior to placing our order for a lobster dinner, we inquired about the market price for the dinner. We were told by the waitress that it was $18.95, and we had her repeat this price to ensure that we heard her correctly. Four of us heard the same thing.in her mind, it was $89.95. Who in their right mind would order a supposed 3 pound lobster with an ear of corn split in half along with a small side of potato salad for $89.95? This is not a fancy place. We were served our dinners as we sat outside at a red painted picnic table.
The lobster dinner was advertised as being enough food to feed two people. This was not the case at all. It was enough food for one. Upon getting the bill we were justly horrified. The waitress argued with us that she told us the correct price (in broken English) and she would have to pay the difference out of her pocket if we didn't pay this absurd amount. The chef stated that he heard her say the amount correctly, which is impossible because he was at least 50 yards from the table. He was not present when the order was given. So, he lied to cover. The owner was summoned by the police department and was given a severe tongue lashing. It only resulted in having the price being reduced by half. This is clearly a norm for which the police are always being summoned about. This was still too much to pay - $49.95. This was resolved only because we offered to pay half of the lobster dinner. Also, we certainly didn't want the waitress to have come up with the difference.
The manager was rude and argumentative, and clearly inappropriate towards customers. Do yourself a favor and drive 1-2 miles more into Saranac Lake and you will find better restaurants and service.
