My son and I visited the Applebee's nearby our home. We asked for the allergy menu because we are celiacs and my son has an allergy to casein. We a had a few questions for the waitress who wasn't able to answer any concerning the preperation of the food. It wass understandable because we asked to speak with the manager that evening, who also by phone contacted the general manager as well as getting some answers about their preperation from the cook there that night. I want to inform anyone who is a celiac DO NOT EAT HERE. Nobody there had any knowledge on how severe these allergy's are and they think if they fry anything over 370 degrees it kills all. These people are so open for a lawsuit for misrepresenting themselves as being able to cater to people with food allergies. Being a Celiac is an auto-immune disease this is something that you can't grow out of you're stuck with it for life. They had no idea about cross contamination, they use the same deep fryer for breaded products as they do the french fries they offer on the gluten free menu. That's when they told us anything cooked over 370 degrees is fine. Do they think it's a joke to suffer when tainted food for us is ingested? The manager for that night had no idea how serious it is to be a celiac. My niece gets hospitalized for weeks at a time when a situation such as this happens, so far I've been lucky it hasn't destroyed my liver as her but I am bedridden for 2 days, so yeah I lose time at work and suffer with a great deal of pain. I wouldn't suggest anyone with food allergies to eat at any Applebee's because when working in restaurant chains there should be training available for anybody who prepares the food to running their business. There's so much more I'd like to say that took place, but trust me if you have intestinal issues please take this to be true to save you the pain because they misrepresent themselves. It's actually safer to eat at a McDonald's or if you're in the area, go to Carabba's. They took our concerns seriously when questioning them about allergies, d they were trained and knew what to offer from the celiac menu to accompany my son's casein allergy with it. They were very professional there, it was a wonderful experience at Carabba, just two miles away is well worth the trip.
