Four of us went to the Blackeyed Pea at Uptown Village in Cedar Hill, TX this past Friday night. It was a total waste of our money & our time. I do appreciate that the waiter actually took my meal off the ticket, but it was still a waste of money!
First off, this place has a bar. So when I ordered a glass of grapefruit juice, I was a bit surprised when I was told they didn't have any. So I ordered a glass of orange juice with a large cup of ice. Well, having a bar or not, I ended up with the 'last of the orange juice' in the restaurant (which wasn't even a full cup) & an even larger glass of ice. The waiter was embarassed & apologized. This was a Friday night & it wasn't even 7pm yet AND it's the height of Christmas shopping in a very busy shopping area!
Then we placed our food order. Two of the dishes we ordered the chicken parmesan with spaghetti & marinara and a hamburger with fried jalapenos. The jalapenos never made it onto the burger, but it was clearly printed on the food ticket. The chicken parmesan & spaghetti with marinara was cold. I don't mean 'it sat waiting to be delivered to us too long cold', I mean 'the sauce had a refridgerator chill to it' cold & the meat was cold enough that the cheese didn't even melt across the top. I cut the meat open to see if I got it back microwaved or a newly cooked meal. It was microwaved! I sent it back & didn't bother to eat anything else as the rest of my party was done eating.
While waiting for the food to arrive, I was watching the lights outside the entry way & dodging the waiters butts that were shoving against the back of my shoulders as they insisted on squeezing between myself & the lady at the table behind me instead of going around us. I noticed a couple come in & they went to 2 different parts of the 'wait for the hostess area', 1 sat down & the other stood by the door. The hostess did nothing. Didn't even bat an eye. Another party came in. She seated them. The man standing said something to the effect of, 'don't you even see us?' to her. She smiled & turned toward his right as another couple came in. She sat the other couple! NEVER said a word to the other couple! He & his female companion left, I would have as well! They were NOT that busy for a Friday night in our area!
After the food came, I continued to have butts brush up against me by the waiters & hostesses. I will not go back there, & I strongly suggest others not to bother going there. The service is not good, although our waiter was great! Any other restaurant, the manager would have come out either when I sent the cold food back OR when I refused to order anything else or let them recook the meal.
Avoid this restuarant! It's NOTHING like the one that used to be in the area 10 years or so ago. The food is not cooked fresh, it's apparently heated as you order it.
