I received a new American Express credit card in the mail but there was someone else's name on the card. I called American Express, spoke to their fraud department and was told this person had opened up the credit card account using my personal information. (I already have an American Express card).
They cancelled the credit card and were/are suppose to send me information within thirty days as to how my personal information was accessed.
After waiting the thirty days without receiving anything, I called the fraud department back and was told they had sent me the information but it was returned as undeliverable. When I asked what address they mailed it to, they said it was sent to the address of the person who opened up the fraudulent account. (It sounds unbelievable but I have it documented by email)
Under section 609e of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, they are required to provide me all records associated with this fraud within thirty days. I have called three times, written two letters and sent them numerous emails and I still have not received any information.
I have filed a complaint with the FTC and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
