Lincoln Mutual Insurance a shady practice - Homeowner's Insurance

I found out on 5/10 that this insurance company discontinued my homeowner's insurance in Oct. 2011. My premium was paid in full until June.

They claim to have mailed out to all their customers a sheet of paper stating they were doing an assessment and all their customer's could either pay it (50% of your premium) or you could cancel the insurance or if as a customer we did nothing, they would cancel the insurance and we forfeit all money on premiums paid.

I never received this letter. I was shocked yesterday to find out I had no insurance. AND shocked when I asked them how could I reinstate my insurance, I was told "sorry but we can't insure your home because it's too old". Then I was told "if you have a problem, you need to take it up with the post office".

Yet the form they handed me that was mailed out states: Let it be further known and understood that any member forfeiting his policy as stated above may be reinstated under the provisions adopted by the Board of Directors of the Company. Provided, however, the Company shall incur no liability under the forfeited policy unless and until the member reinstates his policy by payment of the said assessment.

Yet my house is too old to insure? Even though they've insured my home for 20 years?

I believe if this company was sending out something so important, it should have been sent with a signature required.
I was also told "sorry but the letter states you forfeit your premium" when I asked for the un used premium back.

What would have happened if my house burned down? This is corporate greed at it's best.
