A couple of weeks ago I was searching around for a company to help us refinance our home. My husband was leaving to go overseas and we thought it might be easier on if I didn't have so many bills to be concerned about while he was away.
At the time we started looking I knew my husbands credit wasn't the best and even though mine was better it wasn't enough to help seeing as he is the only one who worked. We applied at different companies but of course were turned down cause my husbands score was in the low 500 and even though mine is in the 600 I don't have an income.
So low and behold I recieve a call from Ameriquest stating that they heard we were looking to refinance and consolidate our debt and they thought maybe they could help. He took down all our info and said he would call me back. Well within a couple of hours he did call me back and stat that he was sure he could help us but that we were going to have to try and do it under my credit because it was stronger and that way we could be insured to get the best rate. I said that the other companies said I couldn't do that cause I had no income. He said that he could help me with that.
He then proceeded to ask me if I did anything through out the year that brought in any money at all. I said that yes I do. I occasionally make needlecrafts for certain artist around the country that pay me to take their art work and make it into pillows or other such things. He said that was great and that what we could do is say that was my profession and that the money my husbands makes is given to me and that is what I make per month. Now granted I thought that was kinda weird and I asked him if it was right to do it that way and he said sure that it was perfectly legal.
He told me all I had to do was right it down on a piece of paper what I did for a living and say that the household income was such and such amount. The amount my husband makes. So stupid me I did it. A couple of days later I recieve the now from what I have heard infamous white disclosure package and nothing in there is what we discussed as far as terms and rates. I then get on the phone and call him to tell him that I was not interested in those terms and that I would not be going through with the app. He assures me that none of those figures are even close to what I would be recieving and it was just a standard package they send everyone.
Again stupid me I believed him and said ok then I will proceed. Now granted my husband has just left to return overseas and I just wanted to get this thing done so that I could consolidate our debt and our mortgage with our equity. He sends out and appraiser that follling Friday. Now the gentleman that came out was just as nice as he could be but an alarm went off when I asked him what he thought our house was going to appraise for. He said that he knew that we needed it to appraise for 125000 and he saw no problem that it would appraise that high. I thought it was very strange that he knew what it needed to appraise for. Why would he has that info.
Now granted I know that he didn't appraise it to far off the number cause my neighbor just sold a house that is almost identical to mine with a few exceptions for $125,000. So even though he said that I let it slide. Well this past week they just sent our package to the underwriters. He sent me numerous emails asking for many docs pertaining to my husband being over seas and said he needed them to proof so they had a legit reason to use my power of attorney. (haHa Legit).
Well because of all the docs that he needed we were unable to finish the underwriting this past week before they went home on Friday. Something inside said that this whole deal didn't feel right so doing like I always do I hit the internet to look up the company and see what their reputation is. I first went to tht BBB and even though the office I am working with didn't have any complaints on file I noticed that some of the other ones did. So that sent up a huge red flag and I decided to hit the net and see what I could come up with.
SO I typed in Ameriquest complaints into a search engine and low and behold I find this site. I look at Ameriquest and I was almost sickened by what I saw. I could not believe that I almost got suckered in to this. I am sure the guy I am working with thought I would be an easy target because of my husband going to war and I was in a emotional state. I guess the last laugh will be on him when I tell him Monday to can the whole thing cause I would never do business with a company like that. We may not have the best credit right now but we always pay our bills and we are not desperate we were just looking to make life a little more simple for me while he is overseas.
