Legal Recovery Law Offices (LRLO) collects for a credit card agency, Capital One.
After I became too disabled with my hearing loss to effectively work at my high paying job, I knew I would not be able to work into my 60's or 70's and retire comfortably. I was frantically trying to find a solution to my debt and other future planning. At 53, with a home mortgage and credit card debt, I decided to go into debt settlement, which I heard a lot about. I could not in good conscience go bankrupt and "stiff" my creditors. And even though I had paid on time (and had excellent credit), in the credit crunch they had ALL increased my interest three time in one year. So I took the plunge and did debt settlement. It went well except for Capital One, who hired LRLO.
They came to my home twice, banging on the door and were hard-nosed and unforgiving with my debt settlement advisor. They were rude and disrespectful; they did not care about my disability and treated my like a "deadbeat". They never gave an inch, claiming I had substantial assets (my underwater mortgage, perhaps?) and continued to add interest and fees to my debt, all the time never trying to settle so that the fees and interest continued to build.
Each time we tried to settle the debt, LRLO found a reason not to. Every offer that my debt settlement advisor made they turned down and every counter offer was impossible for me to meet - they would make offers on a Friday at 4PM that I didn't have time to put together. They wouldn't take a large downpayment with two subsequent lump sum payments. They wouldn't take a cashiers check. When I told my debt settlement advisor I could meet their offer by Jan. 31 they said NO, they wanted it byJan. 27...
Finally I gave in and settled on my own for almost twice the amount I owed. They kept my husband on the phone for 30 min. The day they took payment and they would only do an electronic check - then haggled over an extra dollar they wanted.
This is a company that doesn't want to settle. What they want is for you to give up so that your debt grows and grows. Then they wait until you need to refi or sell your home; they aleady have the suit in place that they file and win; they put a lien on your home and you can't refi or sell until you settle up.By then your debt is astronomical.
I am an ethical person who always paid my debts and never thought I would become physcially disabled. My hearing loss came on suddenly and devastatingly. It has changed my whole life. How was I to know that this could happen? Well, it has taught me a lesson, for sure. These firms don't care one bit about your well being or health or what they take from you. Putting the money together to pay them? Huge hardship! But now they are paid and I owe no one.
To offices like LRLO, what goes around comes around, folks.
