Ripoff - going through hell for insurance payment on loss in home

I was going through financial difficulties approximately three years ago and got behind on my mortgage. I received threatening calls from this company all times of the day and night including weekends. I received calls on my job and had one person to disclose my personal information to a co-worker. That same person called the personnel office and inquired about my employment and disclosed information about me also. I was threatened on New Year's Eve to get out of the house because they were in the process of sending someone to my house to lock my doors. They called my friends homes and left messages on their machine and harrassed them to help me get current on my account. That's just a small example of the tournment I had to endure from that company. I finally ended up filing bankruptcy. Oh what a blessing!

I found myself having to deal with the mortgage company once again. I had a water leak (hot water burst) and the insurance company issued the check to myself and Greentree. When I called to find out what I needed to do with the check I was given a ton of things I needed to complete and send to them along with the check. I made four separate calls to verify the information given by the first person I talk with.

My first conversation/direction was: Endorse the check and send it to them along with a copy of the adjustors report, material list, before and after photos, name of the contractor and his number, and a W-9, and this would take 3-7 days to process upon receipt.

Second Conversation/direction: Endorse the check, send all the above information except the after shots, because the after shots will be needed when the work has been completed.

Third Conversation/direction: Endorse the check, send material list, contractor's name and number, and they will disburse the check to the contractor.

Fourth conversation/direction: Endorse the check, send material list, adjustors' report, contractor's name and number along with the W-9 and they would release the amount for the material to begin work. When the work is finished will release the remaining amount payable to me and the contractor.

Fifth conversation/direction: Endorse the check, send material list along with invoice where material has been paid and they will reimburse the amount paid and issue another check, when work is complete and pictures have been presented, in my name and the contractors' name.

Now tell me why was I told some many different things by five different people. It was explained to me that they had an interest in the home to ensure repairs were made and that it was their policy to handle the financial end of the repairs.

First of all, my loss occurred on 5/24/04; the insurance company sent out a company to dry out the house, they cut all the wet carpet and padding from my floors starting with the bedroom where the leak occurred. They cut the wall in that bedroom and took out the wet sheetrock, they cut half of the carpet and padding in the living room, dining room and den. The linoleum in the kitchen is cut, the plywood floor between the dining room and kitchen has to be replaced. They left two large humidifiers and seven blowers in my home running continously for nine days.

I received the check from the insurance company in a timely manner, but still have to send it half across the world.insurance checks are never enough to complete the work needed and people end up paying out of pocket expense, so why all this? Because it is $61.89 over the allotted amount when a lien holder's signature is not required. I just want to get my house back in order—that's all I want to do. Living conditions are not good, furniture is pushed to the side of the walls in every room and other household items have been packed in boxes and stored in an extra bedroom. My household consist of 4 with myself, a six year old, a 25 year old, and a 20 year old handicapped child who is totaled dependent with a trach, on breathing treatment and oxygen which requires nurses' to be in the home.

My hold beef is having to go through all this when I could get my house back in order within two through three days.
