Complaint / Review
Santander
Simple interest is what they say but not what they charge

It started with a call to Santander to ask why the balance of my account was not going down properly. The woman who spoke with me did had a heavy accent and spoke very quickly. I was nice to her and explained that it was me who had the problem but would she possibly slow down a bit so I would be able to understand her. She tried but would forget and I would gently remind her. I asked her my questions and I got the idea she was giving me a rote answer over and over and never really addressed my questions. She said she would have someone else return my call within a day.instead I asked her to please direct me to somewhere I could view their policies in writing which she said they did not have, so we hung up.

I then logged onto my account because I remembered I could chat with someone live on there. When I logged on there was a notice that I needed to handle the complaint I had filed. I did not file a complaint ever. Then I went to the chat and I asked the same questions to the person on live chat who then told me my account had been flagged due to my complaint and he could not answer my questions because my account was locked to him. I told him there was no complaint and I had called to ask the same questions I was asking him. I began getting 4 to 5 calls per day from Santander which I decided to not answer because they will not put their information in writing to me.

Here it is: I pulled my account payments right off of their websites. My balance has not gone down since February of this year. For the past year and a half I have made payments in excess of the monthly payment. First I was paying 60 dollars over and then after I paid off other bills, I went to paying 100 dollars over the amount. I also ran a simple interest amortization at the rate they say they are charging me. They are charging me more than that to start with. Then is anyone else is familiar with a simple interest loan the interest total goes down slightly each month and the principal paid goes up slightly each month. Not so with Santander. Here's a sampling of interest payments over a few consecutive months in 2010: $361, $228, $281, $333, $383, $212, all payments were made on time and this included at least a 60 dollar overpayment.

I have read horror story after horror story of person upon person who got to the end of the number of loan payments only to owe almost as much as when they purchased the car. I am in the same boat but have figured out the mystery but they still have me by the nuts.

Today is only the beginning of the reports I am going to file. If there are others out there that need me to provide them with an amortization to compare with your payment record or need to know how to obtain your payment record please respond to this complaint. Also consider filing with the Texas Attorney General and the Banking commission. We need to accumulate complaints so an investigation can begin.

Oh btw the number I gave for Santander above is only one of many. Here are some others I know of: 214-237-3516,214-614-3300,972-559-1162,303-658-9000,817-887-0121 plus they also will call using a blocked number and will come across as UNKNOWN.

Thanks for reading and please proceed with caution with Santander and always ask for everything from them in writing although I don't think they will ever do that. Tape the conversations if at all possible.
