My mother recieved her first call on April 12th by CAMCO advising her she owed a debt of 12,480.77 from 1987 for an account with First Union National for a credit card debt. My mother never owed a credit card at that time. The person Michael Smithson insisting that they had been tracking her and sending her letters for 17 years. My mother finally got aggravated and insisting on seeing some type of letter.
She received the letter from CAMCO on April 20th stated that she owed the debt and to dispute the debt she would have to write a letter within 30 days. They advised in the letter if she paid the amount owed 12,480.77 an adjustment may be nescessary after payment received in the event would inform her before depositing the payment. My mother called me and was upset over this company and I advised her there was no way they could collect after that many years. She wanted me to look up on the internet the First Union National to see if it was legitimate. I didn't find anything and then I thought to look up CAMCO and found all these letters and info from everyone that they have also tried to scam. I read several of the letters to my mother to put her mind at ease. I am thankful to have found this site and to have more info about this company, because I call them next.
