UPS has refused to pay 3 claims on computer equipment with a retail value of over $12,000.
All three were packaged by the UPS store and over $200 was paid for packing material. (Can
UPS drivers be held liable for their non-performance?)
In Jan a $10K scanner was shipped to a customer in the Richester, NY area. The drive took the
oversized scanner and rolled the scanner end of end up the driveway breaking the entire scanner.
When my customer tried to refuse the order, the UPS driver told them they HAD to sign for the
shipment. A replacement order went out to the customer with the same result. The driver
smirked "I hope this is not your replacement item."
After nearly 8 weeks, the claim for the scanner was approved but not paid. Crawford said no
payment could be made unless the destroyed item could be recovered. No one keeps broken
glass around the house for 8 weeks.
Contacting the CEO and SVP Legal did nothing as they farmed the claim on to another dept.
Now a third piece of technology equipment was damaged. (You can call Stepahnie Weeks at
877-225-7625 x6198) to get the explanation. I was told the plotter was jostled about and not
packaged properly. When I asked how the package was jostled but the 'supposed' professional
UPS Logistics team I received no response.
If there are any attorneys out there I would be happy to provide my specific information about
the claim process. UPS Crawford does not pay approved claims and apparently the drivers can
drop kick packages with no reason to worry about being disciplined.
