A friend of mine got a letter and then a phone call from the ubiquitous Chris Knight demanding over $4,500 from a credit card debt from 1989. My friend said he'd paid the card off years before and asked for documentation. Well, at CAMCO, them's fightin' words, so Mr. Knight took the offensive, said he didn't have to provide documentation, asked my friend why he didn't just pay his debts, kept interrupting my friend (who just wanted documentation)... The whole drill. My friend hung up and called back to speak to a supervisor, got the same routine.
He called me and asked if I could find out anything about this company. I ran a Web search and ended up here—thank God! The next day, we sent out a Cease and Desist, co-opted from this site, to the street address I found here. Also sent an email complaint on the FTC. Gov site.
Chris called back tonight and told my friend that he'd contacted the original lender bank and they confirmed that it was his account and his signature (yeah, right). My friend mentioned the SOL and Chris told him it didn't matter. My friend asked if Chris got the C&D letter. Chris said, "That's a cowardly way out." (As opposed to courageously hassling people about debts they don't owe?) My friend said, "You were allowed one last phone call, and this was it, " and hung up on him.
Thanks to everyone here for making this alot easier than it otherwise would have been.
