I got a call tonight from a Camco Rep, regarding a legitimate credit card I used 14 years ago. Oddly enough, I actually fell for this same scam last summer and settled on the credit card, so it was completely paid off and the account closed.
The Camco rep said they had no record of this. He told me that if I agreed to make payments, they would settle for 75% less than the entire amount, but that I needed to act before the end of the month - 2 days. He said if I was able to prove the account had already been settled, they would not post my checks. I gave him the routing number.
I'm desperately searching for a record of the payment I made last summer. I've already called the previous company to whom I made the payment; they said they have NO records of payment and they acknowleged that the debt was sold. What can I do? I've agreed to pay and given them my routing number. They said they've filed a claim against me in my county. Help!
