Do not send a voided check to this company. They can re-open a dead or settled account if you send money!
I received a call last night saying I owed $500 on a credit card I had 15 years ago. I settled with that credit company in 1992 and it is no longer in my report. They wanted to pay $1100 (due to interest) and if I were agreeable I can settle it now without the interest. I was very confused at their request and asked them to send me some type of proof of this information or documentation, but CAMCO refused by saying my attorney can only get that information. I was threatened if I did not pay they will file it with the credit bureau. There were several things said in the conversation that got me to think that this was a scam. Such as trying many different ways to talk me into faxing them a voided check!
I told them I would need to do some checking with my files to see what they are talking about and they said that would be fine but could I send them a voided check with the discounted amount agreed. I told them I would not give them my band account number because I am not sure who they are and I told the person "how do I know you are not some person in a boiler room in NJ trying to rip me off". Needless to say I did not give them any account information and decided to check them out. I am glad I found your web site.
I wonder how does this company stay in business and not be in trouble with the law? This is fraud. A federal offense. I will be reporting these folks to the FBI. I suggest others do the same.
