Years ago I was an AMERICAN EXPRESS customer, and was cancelled for no apparent good reason that I could think of. This was early 1981.
A few years ago, as a COSTCO customer, I signed up for the convenience of tracking all of my COSTCO expenditures thru one billing.
Recently, AMERICAN EXPRESS cancelled me again, and I had been prompt and paying my bill on time, in many cases paying several times a month to keep my balance down as necessary.
When I paid my last bill, there had been NO ACTIVITY IN SEVERAL DAYS as the card no longer would work at the COSTCO FUEL PUMPS nor the store checkout.
I went online, paid my bill in full, and immediately upon completion of the PAYMENT online, I got "account CANCELLED" notification.
This was not bad enough. Two weeks later they sent an e-mail demanding I pay them an additional 15.34 cents that I did not owe them, under any circumstances.
I think they do this to a lot of people and then, as many people fear it being referred to a credit collection agency, or scumball house as they all are, and just pay them anyway, I refuse to do this without them showing substantiation of this additional, after full final payment, charge.
But my guess is many people have had this happen. I notified COSTCO, who did nothing to even take my complaint, and then closed my COSTCO membership out for both myself and my significant other. COSTCO has five more years of a ten year agreement with them, and I refuse to do business with any businesses who are linked to AMERICAN EXPRESS in any way, make, nor form. COSTCO lost a customer because of their business connection to this slimeball outfit.
