Complaint / Review
Aflac (Short term disability insurance)
Headquarters: Columbus, Ga. Short-Term Disability Insurance Claims Process

Purchased this short-term disability insurance policy while employed by an AFLAC - sponsored institution; this company is rolling in money and spends it freely on stuffed DUCKS, promotional doo-dads and sales, sales, sales...

I paid premiums faithfully for x years, made one simple claim which was covered without question and honored without difficulty. (Being single with no other income source, it pays to be prepared for short-term illness since nobody else is paying the bills!)
A few years hence and a very valid claim was denied. After receiving pointless letters (denials) from the Company, some demands for information, and petty threats from the Claims Department, I insisted the policy be canceled. I received a partial refund for premiums paid over the period in question. I put Aflac out of my mind although I still insist they owe me approx $5,000. I thought that was the END.

Flash forward just weeks after this fiasco ended. (I remain disabled, without income, receiving food stamps, and waiting for invisible Social Security Adjudicator to appear.) Today I received yet ANOTHER mysterious letter from Aflac— although I thought I was a FORMER customer with a CANCELED policy! And yet... It turns out, they have "received a claim on the policy listed above"... And will process the claim (s) within 14 days!" Isn't that NICE?

Abject incompetence AND efficiency in one crisp, first class letter.

It's difficult enough to be 'down' and out, broke and sick, dependent and angry, borderline BITTER. If these people insist on harassing me through the mail, I will turn to Federal Law to insist the abuse is stopped. It sickens me how they hide behind their cute little DUCKS, and toss dollars into the Aflac Cancer Centers so the world will think better of them. Not nice, Dan.
