Complaint / Review
Allstate
Ripoff Multiple Cities

I have renters insurance w / Allstate & was vctm of burglary more than 2 mos - ago. It has been nothing but a run around and now they are claiming a police report (Unsigned and hand written w / no return address) - Will enclose here some of my efforts in this:

ATTEN: CHIEF DAVID TOWE
(NOTE: Had requested e-mail add - for Chief - from Dispatch - she didn't know but asked on duty Sgt Moore - He too didn't know Chief's e-mail but offered to relay message to him) Relay appreciated - Your Department most helpful.

RE: My alarm at Allstate's handeling of my claim

Re: Claim# 1683050395 RAL
Pol # 907885093

It is just a little after 11 A.M. Following my conversation w / Ann Lewis, Claims Adjuster (about 20 min - ago) I made contact w / David Towe who is the Chief of Police - Jacksonville, Or. He is doing some research for me but was most helpful. He assured me that his Department, if requested, would provide a copy of the initial report of the burglary to the company requesting same. It would include a letterhead which would show relevant phone numbers and names of officers involved in his Department and the address and phone number of the Department. So far he has found no request in this case but is looking further. He assured me they would not provide any letter of the type described by Ms. Ann Lewis.

Ms. Lewis informed me she had received a letter from the Jacksonville P.D. That showed no name of who it was from. That the letter informed her that in my initial report I had claimed only the loss of a laptop computer and nothing more. She, Ms. Lewis, further claimed that this letter informed her that I had returned to their Department and requested that they not pursue their investigation. Ms. Lewis informed me that in light of this anonymous letter from some unnamed person in the Jacksonville P.D. My claim would not be payed but would be held for investigation.

It is possible that some ill motivated goon is playing some game here. Ms. Lewis told me she would be sending me a copy of the letter she was sighting and if so I will attempt to trace its sours.

I had made as complete a report to the Jacksonville P.D. As I could immediately upon learning of the burglary. I attempted to report further to the investigating officer some suspicions I had been acquiring on this matter but the officer had not been able to make further contact with me as I was in the process of moving.

My dealings w / Allstate in this particular matter has been most disappointing. It has been one run-around after another requiring me to obtain and pay for notarized documents through an Allstate agent here in Eureka. I have learned that I am not alone in my concerns. If I find I am the victim of willful fraud from Allstate Claims I can assure you that I am not one you would want to try such a thing on.

I have just received letter fr - Ms. Ann Lewis dated 11/24/03.

With respected to the unsigned and undated hand written note I must ask; "how did you receive this." Was it faxed to you & if so from what ph#. If postal, "What return address was on the envelope." In my prior message I noted my conversation w / Jacksonville Chief of Police, David Towe, who assured me that this note would not have been from his Department. I do want to know from where it came, however. I am not at this point prepared to conclude that this note was concocted by anyone at Allstate just to avoid paying a lawful claim.

I do, however, need to trace the source of it and your assistance will be much appreciated. Is this note written on page two of your request to the Jacksonville P.D. And if so, who is OPER: S02263. The document makes little sense to me but if it is some in-trade shorthand that can be clarified, your help in deciphering it would be appreciated.

I suspect this is a fraud on part of someone at Allstate & will follow up as I learn more.
