Complaint / Review
Chase Manhattan Bank
Ripoff preditory lender Bate and Switch con game

Last February or March I entered into an agreement with Chase to transfer my credit card balances for a 5.9% interest rate. When I received my first bill I paid it the following day. What I did not know was that I received the bill late.

On my May statement I noted that the interest rate had been changed to approx. 22%. When I called to find out the reason, I was told that my payment had been late. I stated that I sent the payment as soon as I received the bill. I was told that there was nothing they could do.

I obtained the address of the President, Michael Barrett and wrote to hime explaining the situation. I received a reply in June that my rate would be returning to the original rate agreed upon and I would receive credit for any extra charges due to the increased percentage rate. When I did not see a change on my next bill I called and was told it would take two or three months to make the correction but that I would be credited with any additional charges.

When the correction had not occured by September, I called again and was told that they correction would be made immediately. When it did not occur on my October statement I called again and was told they new nothing making the correction. I again wrote Mr. Barrett and this time got an answer that they would not change my rate because my name is on one of my husbands accounts (not a Chase account) which is delinquent.

Chase is a preditory lender and I am a victim of the Bate and Switch con game. I would like to know how to persue this issue.
