I am having the same and similar problems with Providian/Aria/GetSmart/Emerge. I had three accounts with them total. After a year of having the first account, they closed the account, no further explaination.
I was always way below the credit limit, and always made double payments and never late. I was real upset that the company could just close the account with no explaination. Then the next week, the second account wrote and said they were increasing the interest rate. I closed the account and was able to keep the interest at the 23% rate. Still not good. Then I was contacted by Emerge. Telling me that they were now handling the third account. I closed that account while still with Providian/Aria/GetSmart, was able to also stay at 23%, but when I pulled a credit report to get my house, Providian had the account listed, and Emerge also listed the account as open.
I called the Emerge, and asked that if the account was open where was my card. They then told me that the account was closed. I disputed the inaccuacies on my credit report. I always tell people now to never deal with Providian/Aria/GetSmart/Emerge I will never recommed the card to anyone. I hated dealing with the company. I am learning the hard way. A bill that seems like it is not going away. I guess the saying of "liars and cheaters are one and the same" rings true again.
