Misrepresentation

I recently bought a prepaid visa card for my nephew as a Christmas gift. I paid for a specific amount, while I was still at the store, I specificly asked the cashier how it works and wether or not I had to do anything other than call the customer service number on the back of the card. The cashier (and I have her number on my reciept), said that was all I had to do. Well I attempted to activate the card and I did, but in order to do that I had to give my personal information, but that's not all. Once I did that then I was prompted to a screen that gave me the agreement claus and what I'm understanding from it, is that a personalized card will come in my name within a week or so (even though I want this card for my nephew), unless I use the amount I purchased on the card before the personalized card arrives. I tried to call the customer service number to speak to a live representative, to ask them if because the information is in my name it would cause him embarasment by them denying him use of it, but the automated recording, said if I want to speak to a customer service representative I was going to be charged 2.00. Now I would be out of two dollars on what started out to be a prepaid gift card for my nephew as a Christmas present.
I still don't know if my Nephew will be unable to use this card, or if I just purchased this card for myself, and I tried to get this information from the cashier before I even purchased it, and did so because she said it would be no problem, what do you do when the so called customer service/employee of any company doesn't even have the correct answer and steer you the wrong way? I will have to go back to that store and hope that something can be done, however I am affraid like many times, I am just going to be told something stupid like well thats just our policy mam, I'm sorry there's nothing more we can do, and meanwhile customers continue to get the short end of the stick. This by the way happend at the Wal-mar supercenter 2101 Gateway Center drive in Belvidere, Il 61008. I know this is a long winded complaint but if you would please warn others to really consider getting this so called Walmart pre-paid visa card, it might avoid someone else from being inconvinienced, especially during the busy holidays like I now will be.
Thank you for allowing me to voice my discust!
