I am a mother of three who is lower class. My husband is on unemployment and I am interviewing for jobs. We have one older car that belongs to my parents. With the economy we lost everything in Wilmington and moved to Pinehurst. I kept my Suntrust Account. We have no Credit cards because we lost everything and couldn't pay them. Just recently I had my husbands unemployment checks directly deposited into our Suntrust Checking account. This past week the check didn't go through on Tuesday like normal it went through on Wednesday. So we bounced some items. Suntrust charged us $648 worth of fees for bouncing. That day when I went into the bank to explain what had happened, they offered me a credit card so this wouldn't happen again. What a catch twenty two. The check would have more then covered what items had bounced. I told them this was the first time this ever happened couldn't they wave the fee. The fee they charged us took all of our unemployment money and more (we are still negative). They left a family of 5 with no food money, no gas money, and no bill money. We have had to live off our WIC items our kids get, and hope our bills can wait! The pinehurst branch told me the Wilmington branch would have to handle the issue and they would call me tomorrow. Two days later, still with no money, they call me to let me know that they refunded two fees (which is not included in the $648 they have charged us) but they couldn't help me with any of the others. I know they could wave those fees! It is the first time this has happened and they took a poor family to the cleaners. We are just trying to survive.
